GUWAHATI: Carrying on investigations into the State Police Sub Inspector (Unarmed Branch) recruitment scam in Assam, the CID (Criminal Investigation Department), on Wednesday, arrested Jitu Mikir who is an "orderly" of former DIG PK Dutta – one of the prime accused in the scam. However, the police are yet to get any clue about the whereabouts of Dutta. Police sources hinted that Jiban Deka – another prime accused – may surrender soon.

The arrested orderly is a constable of the GRP (Government Railway Police). Mikir has been associated with Dutta for several years – both during and also after the retirement of Dutta.

During the day, the CID sealed 29 rooms of Hotel Bhargav Grand – owned by Dutta — at Betkuchi in the city on Wednesday. This development took place after the sleuths confirmed from documents seized earlier from the hotel on September 23 and 24, that 63 candidates had stayed overnight at that hotel on September 19. Mentionably, the scheduled examination was cancelled on September 20 following the question paper leak that very day.

Providing the details, CID sources informed, "Two masked men delivered hand-written question papers along with answers to each of the 63 candidates that night. They directed the candidates to memorize the questions as well as the respective answers. The next morning, two masked persons collected the question papers along with the answers from each of the candidates."

Meanwhile, Nalbari Police detained two candidates — identified as Abdul Sheikh and Bitumoni Das — from Hajo. Police sources informed that both of them had appeared in the mock test conducted at the 'Thank You Lodge', Ganeshguri in the city on September 19.
