GUWAHATI/JAGIROAD: Morigaon and Nagaon police swooped down on villages and picked up 170 of the 300 youths who fled Jagiroad Railway Station on Sunday, violating the COVID-19 protocol. They were made to face the COVID-19 test in the Morigaon district, and 14 of them tested positive.

All the youths came from Kerala. According to police sources, cases under the Assam Disaster Management Act and IPC have been filed in Jagiroad Police Station against each of them for violation of COVID-19 protocol.

Police also said, while 150 were picked up from Morigaon district, around 21 were nabbed from Juria in Nagaon. The family members of the picked-up youths have also been brought for COVID-19 tests.

Sources said, such an incident also happened at Hojai Railway Station. Over 100 Silchar-bounder passengers alighted in Hojai Station and fled without any COVID test. The police are on the lookout for those people who came from outside the State.
