GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora, who sent his resignation letter to the party high command, has said that his party lost the election after giving a fight to the ruling party. He asserted that though defeated, this time the Congress would continue to fight.

Accepting the moral responsibility of the Congress's defeat in the Assembly elections 2021, Bora said the party would analyse and introspect the causes of its failures to win the polls. "But we accept the people's verdict," he said.

Asked whether its alliance with the AIUDF resulted in the rejection of the Congress by the people, Bora said his party did not ally with the AIUDF alone. "We allied with many other political parties to form the Mahajoot. But the perception was created that Congress forged its alliance only with the AIUDF. We have lost the battle before the money power and communal forces," he said.

Reacting to his defeat in the Gohpur constituency, Ripun Bora said he had plans to contest the election either from Borsolla or Naoboisha constituency. "But I didn't want to leave the people of Gohpur. But the people of Gohpur failed to understand me. I accept the verdict of the people of Gohpur," Bora said.
