Assam: Pre-monsoon lightning kills 10 this year in state

Guwahati: As many as 10 people were killed by lightning and storms across the state in this pre-monsoon season. There has been heavy rainfall in many places, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, which led to the casualties. The pre-monsoon season lasts from March 1 to May 31 in Assam.

According to government sources, the number of people killed by lightning and thunderstorms last year was 69. Of these, 51 were killed by lightning, and the remaining 18 lost their lives due to storms. In the pre-monsoon period this year, 10 people were killed by lightning and storms. Of these, 4 were killed in lightning strikes and 6 in storms. The state government provides Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of such victims of natural disasters. A similar amount is also given to the next of kin of people killed due to floods.
