Assam: Rainfall provides relief in several places in state

Guwahati: People in some parts of the state, including Guwahati, experienced some relief from the heat and lack of rainfall in the past 24 hours. A drought-like situation has been prevailing in several districts, forcing farmers to forego the sowing of paddy seedlings in their parched fields.

According to the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) at Guwahati, several places in the state received more than 5 cm of rainfall in the past 24 hrs. These are Hazuwa with 21 cm, Tihu 13 cm, Mushalpur 9 cm, Kokrajhar 8 cm, Chamata 8 cm, Chirang 7 cm, Bajali 7 cm, Gossaigaon 7 cm, Dhubri 7 cm, Agomani 7 cm, Karimganj 6 cm, Dibrugarh 6 cm, Gauripur 6 cm, Sruangram 6 cm, Beki-Mathanguri 5 cm, Boko 5 cm, Goalpara 5 cm, North Lakhimpur 5 cm, and Nalbari with 5 cm of rainfall.

The RMC, Guwahati, issued a forecast for Monday, which says, “Moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Assam. No large change in maximum temperatures is very likely over Assam.”

Also, a warning has been issued by RMC for Monday, which says, “Thunderstorms & lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam. Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam.”

The maximum temperature in Guwahati on Sunday was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius, which was 3.7 degrees less than normal. The maximum temperatures recorded today at a few other places: Dibrugarh 35.3 degrees Celsius, Jorhat 36.2 degrees Celsius, Lumding 36 degrees Celsius, North Lakhimpur 36 degrees Celsius, Silchar 32.6 degrees Celsius, and Goalpara 30.8 degrees Celsius.
