Assam requires 42,000 Vehicles for Assembly Polls

GUWAHATI: For the movement of security forces and polling personnel as well as poll-related equipment while conducting the forthcoming Assembly elections, the State will require around 42,000 vehicles.

Following direction from the Election Department, Assam, State Transport department has already contacted a few States like West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland among others; and they too have conveyed their readiness to help Assam in this regard. Compared to the 2016 Assembly polls, there is a requirement of more vehicles this time as additional auxiliary polling stations will have to set up due to COVID-19 protocols.
