SIVASAGAR: While the Assam Government has imposed legal restrictions on the indiscriminate establishment of Paramedical institutions, higher education centers, and competitive exam coaching centers across the state, a different trend is emerging in Sivasagar. Several unauthorized medical service centers, coaching institutes, and paramedical business ventures have been rapidly proliferating in various parts of the district, including the heart of Sivasagar town, raising concerns over a multi-million-rupee mystery business.

The Sivasagar District Grahak Suraksha Samiti has brought this alarming issue to light through a press statement. In the statement, Samiti's General Secretary and senior journalist Pranjal Rajguru highlighted that numerous such institutions are operating without valid government approval, authorization from national medical education and research bodies, or proper recognition from the central government’s technical and higher education departments.

According to Rajguru, these mysterious business establishments are not genuinely focused on education but are primarily engaged in misleading poor and unsuspecting students. Many of these unrecognized and fraudulent institutions lure students from economically weaker sections with false promises of government jobs, charging exorbitant fees in the process. Reports of financial exploitation and deception by these institutions have repeatedly reached the Grahak Suraksha Samiti, prompting urgent calls for intervention.

What makes the situation even more distressing is that many students from underprivileged backgrounds, hoping to build a future, enrol in these expensive courses, paying hefty fees. However, they eventually fall victim to systematic exploitation and fraud. Most paramedical and nursing education courses offered in these institutions lack government recognition and the faculty members often do not possess the necessary academic or technical qualifications. Despite these blatant irregularities, such dubious business ventures have continued operating for years, Rajguru alleged.

The Grahak Suraksha Samiti has appealed to the Sivasagar District Commissioner, the Joint Director of Health Services, and the district administration to take stringent legal action against these unauthorised institutions to protect students and curb financial exploitation.
