Guwahati: Huge arrangements have been made by the district administration for the eviction drive to clear around 11,000 bigha of encroached land at Uriamghat in the Golaghat district from tomorrow. Around 100 earthmovers and 2,000 personnel of the Assam Police, CRPF, and Forest Department are already at the site to start the eviction drive.

Incidentally, the NSCN today expressed their opposition to the planned eviction drive, as the encroached lands are located on the Assam-Nagaland border. In light of this, the district administration is ensuring tighter security measures for the drive. However, a few days back, the district administration of the Golaghat district held talks with their counterparts in Nagaland about the impending eviction drive.

Already, a large number of encroachers have left the area in batches, along with their belongings. Those still living on these lands will be evicted from tomorrow.

The civil society has appealed to the encroachers not to be affected by instigation by anyone and take the law into their hands during the operations.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated, "Our anti-encroachment drives are being carried out to benefit the indigenous people of Assam, and they are firmly behind us in this mission. The amount of land freed is just the tip of the iceberg. We will free every inch of our land from the encroachers."

In many places, the people are also coming out to support the government's eviction drives. 15 organizations of Sivasagar district, like Sadou Tai-Ahom Sattra Santha, Ahom Jatiya Mancha, Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Garia-Maria-Deshi Jatiya Parishad, etc., appealed to the government that not only on forest land, but the eviction drives should be carried out on all encroached lands. They also appealed to the citizens not to give their houses on rent to people of doubtful nationality. Under the Hajo revenue circle, in Dihina village, the villagers held some people of such doubtful nationality and checked their documents like Aadhar cards, voter cards, etc., and later handed them over to the police.

In Lakhimpur district's Magonipathar tribal belt, hundreds of people came out in support of the eviction drives, and they appealed to the government to carry out such an eviction drive in the Magonipathar tribal belt. They stated that, 20 years ago, only 3 Muslim families came to the area, and now it has been converted into a whole village.
