GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that by taking into account the tension over the India-Pakistan war, the state government would adopt some steps, including austerity measures and extending indirect support to the families of the army personnel.

Speaking to the media here today, the Chief Minister said that

(i) The government will desist from lavish expenditure while holding seminars, workshops, ceremonial functions, etc. Important programmes will be held inside conference rooms with a bare minimum expenditure.

(ii) No minister or official can go on a foreign tour with government expenditure so long as the war continues. The officers will have to avoid non-essential training programmes. Barring the police department, the government will desist from purchasing new vehicles during the war.

(iii) The government is not going to hold any big rally so long as the war continues. There will be no Vijay Utsav in the aftermath of the panchayat poll result.

(iv) The government hoardings that display various government schemes and projects will now have only content regarding patriotism and matters meant for support to the Indian Army.

(v) Though there will be no ban on leave for government employees, they will have to report for duty as and when called for.

(vi) Every district in the state will have a control room for extending help to the families of army men deployed on the warfront. Through these control rooms the district authorities will extend services like making LPG gas available, addressing problems regarding the admission of their children in schools, and providing medical attendance for the families of army personnel.

(vii) The government will make district-wise lists of blood donors, including rare blood groups, so as to supply blood for army personnel deployed on the warfront.

(viii) The government will conduct a survey on the emergency services of doctors and nurses, besides other medical equipment, so as to make them render services to the war victims.

(ix) The district commissioners have been instructed to facilitate the movement of army personnel smoothly by removing inhibitions, if any.
