Guwahati: Assam’s annual budget for the financial year 2025-26 will be tabled in the state Assembly on Monday (March 10) by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog. This will be the last full-fledged budget of the Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government prior to the Assembly election in 2026.
The next Assembly election is likely to be held in April 2026. Being an election year, the government can only table an interim budget in the earlier part of next year. Interim budgets are generally tabled for a period of three or six months. A full-fledged budget is possible only after the formation of the new government after the election.
Being the last full-fledged budget of the present government, a populist budget with sops for the people is expected by various quarters. The Annual Budget Statement (Budget Estimates) of the Assam government for FY 2025-26 will be tabled on the floor of the Assembly at 11.30 AM on Monday.
The annual budget for the current FY 2024-25, with revised estimates, was Rs 1,68,672.95 crore. The Chief Minister and the Finance Minister gave the final touches to the budget on Sunday evening, prior to its tabling in the Assembly on Monday.
