Guwahati: With rainfall recorded across the state in the past week, the drought-like situation has somewhat improved, with 22% more than normal rainfall recorded. However, there is still a deficit of 32% rainfall in the state in this monsoon season.
In the past 24 hours, the state received considerable amounts of rain in most places of the state.
According to a report from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, rainfall of 9 cm and above was recorded in the past 24 hours in the following places:

The large-scale precipitation in several places, including Guwahati, resulted in flash floods in many areas of the city, including parts of the Guwahati Bypass. Narayanpur in the Lakhimpur district, parts of the Mangaldai-Bhutiachang road, and nearby areas of Raimona National Park were inundated by rainwater.
RMC also stated that Assam received a total amount of 95.2 mm of rainfall in the week ending Wednesday, against the normal of 77.9 mm. This marks a departure of 22% above the normal rainfall. However, it is a matter of concern that the state continues to suffer from a deficit of 32% below the normal in the span from June 1 to August 13. During the period mentioned, the state received a total of 670.3 mm of rainfall.
As for the forecast for August 14, the RMC stated, “Moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Assam.”
The forecast for August 15, or Independence Day, reads, “Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at a few places over Assam.”
