SILCHAR: Following a daylong high voltage drama, the Assam University authority put Professor Ajit Kumar Jena, who faces serious allegations of sexual harassment, on leave till the internal investigation was complete.
On the other hand, students continued their demonstration in front of the main gate demanding arrest of the accused teacher. Professor Jena reportedly lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the female students, who had accused him, had actually put pressure on him seeking favourable grades in the examinations.
Amid this backdrop, the Assam University campus saw a daylong meeting among the officials. Later, the authority issued a notification asking the accused teacher to cooperate with the Internal Complaint Committee and put him on leave till the enquiry is on and asked him not to leave station without prior approval. The Registrar tried to convince the students to withdraw their protest but they said that they would continue with their protest till Jena doesn’t get arrested.
