CIVIL SERVICE DAY

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 20: Babus in Assam on Thursday broke their conventiol dress code and wore traditiol Assamese attire (dhoti-kurta) to celebrate an event on the eve of Civil Service Day at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra at Panjabari in the city.

Many onlookers, particularly television jourlists present there to cover the event, were amused to see the State’s top bureaucrats including Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia entering the venue in traditiol Assamese attire. Jourlists immediately shifted their focus on who was wearing what and why.

To quote Additiol Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu, it was a ‘nice and pleasant experience’ to break the conventiol dress code, that too at a time when the entire State is celebrating the Rongali Bihu. Another senior bureaucrat said he was feeling extremely cool and comfortable in traditiol attire. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, chief guest in the function, seemed impressed with the traditiol attire adopted by bureaucrats. He appreciated their pivotal role in keeping the State’s culture and tradition intact.

Civil Service Day is celebrated across India for civil servants to rededicate themselves to the cause of citizens and renew their commitment to public service and excellence in work.
