TANGLA: In a bid to resolve the issues plaguing the Hindu Bengalis of the State, the student bodies and organisations representing the community are mulling to unite under an umbrella and float in a new political party ahead of the Assam Assembly polls slated in 2021. The student bodies and like-minded organisations have also called a joint meeting of these organisations at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district on October 10 and 11. This key meeting will discuss the strategies for formation of the party and its future course of action.

Lambasting the Sonowal-led Assam government, the president of the All Assam Bengali Youth Students' Federation (AABYSF) Dipak Dey said that the Government has betrayed the community as the burning issues plaguing the community, were never resolved. He further said, "The State government has provided land pattas to one lakh landless indigenous people. I dare to say that not even a single Bengali Hindu person has been a part of this project."

Reiterating that the people of the community are not opposing the implementation of Clause-VI of the Assam Accord, he, however, stated, "But in recent times, there have been polarization between the Hindu Bengalis and the indigenous people of the State."

He added, "This is despite the fact that people of the Bengali Hindu community are part and parcel of the land. They have embraced the language, culture, food habits of the State. But, they have not been given the due recognition; and the government is purportedly mulling for creating an artificial indigenous Assamese people."

The adviser of the 'All BTC Bengali Youth Students' Federation' (ABBYSF), Shyamal Sarkar said that for the sake of socio-political rights and protection of the community, the student bodies and like-minded organisations in both the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys along with the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) region will unite for a common cause and will float a political party. He added that a number of candidates will be projected in selected constituencies in the forthcoming Assam Assembly polls of 2021.
