KOKRAJHAR: The Consulate General of Bhutan (Consulate office at Guwahati) Jigme Thinley Namgyal visited BTC Secretariat on Thursday and held a meeting with high officials of the council on issues related to problems faced due to 'collection of taxes' from Bhutanese trucks that pass via the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The BTC, on the other hand, urged Namgyal to ensure advance information while releasing water from their dams.

BTC Principal Secretary Anurag Goel and Bhutanese Consulate General of Bhutan Jigme Thinley Namgyal greeted each other. Namgyal raised the problems for Bhutanese trucks while passing through the BTR. Namgyal said that Bhutanese trucks carrying industrial materials, sand, stone and gravel and other substances were facing problems while passing through the Jomduar road in the Kokrajhar district after the declaration of Raimana Forest as a national park. He also said that the collection of taxes from Bhutanese trucks was hiked with the change of system.

Namgyal called upon the BTC administration to ensure smooth passing of their vehicles and trucks in the BTR.

BTC Secretary Naren Chandra Basumatary said that they would continue to uphold the friendship between the two neighbours by hearing each other's problems. The good relations of Bhutan-India Friendship Association (BIFA) would continue in the future too, he said.

BTC Secretary Dhiraj Saud said that the sharing of advanced information system while releasing of water from hydro projects in Bhutan should be revived as the waters create havoc in the downstream. This will let BTC take precautionary measures, he said.
