GUWAHATI: Several prominent leaders on Wednesday filed their nomination papers across 12 districts that are going for the third-phase of Assembly elections slated on April 6. The last day for filing nomination papers is March 19 while scrutiny of the papers will be held on March 20. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 22.

Among those who filed their nomination papers are State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass for Patacharkuchi LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) in Bajali district; Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary (Dharmapur LAC in Nalbari district); Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita of the AGP (Chaygaon LAC in Kamrup district); Ashok Kumar Singhi (Bilasipara East in Dhubri district); and Narayan Deka (Barkhetri LAC in Nalbari district).

At Patacharkuchi, huge rallies – both before and after filing of nomination — were held in support of Ranjeet Kumar Dass. Among those present on these occasions were Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma; AGP president and working president Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta respectively; Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury and other leaders from the BJP.

Before filing his nomination, Dass said, "Assam will have BJP-led government once again. Our target is 100 plus seats. This time, our party has reposed on me the responsibility to develop Patacharkuchi LAC and the newly formed Bajali district. I will also ensure continuity in the development of Sarbhog — my constituency during the last five years."

Addressing a rally after filing his nomination at Nalbari, Chandra Mohan Patowary said, "The Congress-led 'Mahajoot' and the newly formed regional parties are claiming that they will for the next government in Assam. However, the masses will vote for development and the BJP-led alliance." At Chaygaon also, a massive rally was held in support of Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita. Addressing his supporters, he said, "For the last two terms, Chaygaon failed to develop during the successive terms of Congress. Now, the masses of Chaygaon want development. Hence, the electorates will vote in my favour."

The third-phase Assembly election on April 6 will be held in 40 LACs across the following 12 districts, namely Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Nalbari, and South Salmara.
