Cabinet decisions against National Education Policy-2020: Literary bodies

GUWAHATI: The constituent Sahitya Sabhas of the ITSSA (Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha, Assam) joined the AXX (Axam Xahitya Xabha), BSS (Bodo Sahitya Sabha), AASU (All Assam Students Union) and the ABSU (All Bodo Students Union) to protest the recent decisions taken by the State Cabinet on education.

The AXX, BSS, AASU and the ABSU today met the ITSSA that comprises the sabha sabhas of the Misings, Rabhas, Tiwas, Deoris, Karbis, Dimasas and the Garos on the decisions taken by the State Cabinet on education. After a detailed discussion, the meeting strongly opposed the decisions taken by the State Cabinet on education. According to them, the recent Cabinet decisions on education are 'unscientific and shortsighted' that will spell disaster for the mother tongues and vernacular schools.

They also said that the Cabinet decisions were against NEP-2020 (National Education Policy-2020). They demanded immediate cancellation of the recent Cabinet decisions after reconsideration.

The literary bodies have also demanded that the government should review the merger and amalgamation of schools and stop the process until it comes to a conclusive decision.
