GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet today decided to take a Rs 1,121-crore loan from NABARD for two new medical colleges —one in Biswanath and the other in Charaideo. The loan amount for the Biswanath Medical College is Rs 564 crore, and that of Charaideo is Rs 557 crore.

The Cabinet met here today and took several decisions. The State government had given Rs 931 crore as a loan and Rs 3,366 crore as grants to the debt-ridden APDCL. The Cabinet decided to make these two amounts the government's equity share to the power distribution company. The Cabinet also waived the Rs 930-crore interests that the APDCL owed the State government.

The Cabinet stopped the deputation of PWD engineers to other departments. The Cabinet decided it by taking the workload in the PWD in view.

The Cabinet decided to introduce EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) in all municipal elections instead of ballot papers.
