CBI apprehends NFR officer in bribery case

GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today apprehended NF Railway's Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Coaching) Ranjit Kumar Borah, and the employee of a private firm in a bribery case involving Rs 15 lakh.

The CBI registered the case against the Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Coaching), NFR, Maligaon, Guwahati, and Chintan Jain, Director of a Patna-based private company, besides his employee Niraj Kumar and others.

According to the CBI, Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer Borah, while working as Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Construction) in NFR, had obtained two immovable properties –. Benami flats allegedly through illegal gratification from the Director of the said private company. The accused allegedly demanded Rs 2.10 crore from the private person and extended undue benefits to him in the past, besides assuring them to extend the favour.

There are allegations that the private person started transferring the bribe money to the public servant in installments. The CBI laid a trap and apprehended the public servant and the employee of the private firm when Rs 15 lakh was paid. CBI conducted searches at nine locations, including at Guwahati, Patna, Noida etc., today. The searches led to the recovery of several incriminating documents. Searches are continuing.
