Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registers case against ex-ONGC DGM and others

GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case based on the complaints filed by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), New Delhi, against a former DGM (MS) and a Contractual Medical Officer (Occupational Health) at ONGC Jorhat of the organization as well as the proprietor of a private physiotherapy clinic, on the charge of conspiring against the company to make personal gains.

The investigating agency also carried out searches in a total of seven locations in Guwahati, Jorhat, and Dehradun. According to reports, several incriminating documents, including documents related to six properties in the name of the then DGM, were recovered during the search.

The name of the accused former DGM (MS) is Dr. Bijoy Kumar Shaw. The other accused are the Contractual Medical Officer (Occupational Health) of ONGC Jorhat, Dr. Eashitva Tamuly, and the Proprietor of M/s Kiran Physiotherapy Clinic, Jadumoni Hazarika, Chinnamara, Jorhat.

As per the complaint, the ONGC employees, along with the proprietor of the clinic and some unknown parties, generated requisition slips for physiotherapy in the names of retired beneficiaries of ONGC health facilities and their dependents without the knowledge of the ‘beneficiaries’ and even in the names of expired beneficiaries.

It was further alleged that the proprietor of the physiotherapy clinic claimed false and bogus bills, which were verified and certified by the then DGM, resulting in the fraudulent payment of Rs 19,15,080 (approx.) by ONGC.
