Guwahati: In a bid to improve connectivity with the neighbouring country of Bhutan, both the Assam and central governments have decided to improve road connectivity to Gelephu in Bhutan from lower Assam. As part of this, Assam PWD (NH division) prepared a detailed project report (DPR) with the help of a consultancy firm, and the DPR has been sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for approval.

The proposed project for construction and upgradation of the newly-declared NH 127C, from Assam’s Samthaibari to Dadgiri near Gelephu in Bhutan, under Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode has been undertaken. The 25-km stretch of NH 127C is under the Abhayapuri Construction Division of the Assam PWD. The project is expected to cost around Rs 300 crore. The tender will be called once approval of the DPR is granted by the MoRTH.

The proposed road is expected to connect the proposed Gelephu Mindfulness City, an innovative urban development project that integrates economic growth with mindfulness, holistic living, and sustainability. Gelephu Mindfulness City is located at a strategic position at the crossroads of major economic regions, including South Asia and ASEAN, and combines Bhutan’s commitment to sustainable development, rich cultural heritage, and strong governance.
