Central Government's corona prediction for Assam comes true

GUWAHATI: The Union Health Ministry's prediction about the COVID-19 positive cases to touch 64,000 in Assam by August, is likely to come true. The State has recorded 48,000 positive cases in the last two months and the number is fast rising.

On June 4 this year, the State had crossed 2000 COVID-19 positive cases. It has crossed 50,000 positive cases on August 5. Even though the positive cases are rising in other districts especially in Upper Assam, the rate of positivity is declining in Guwahati. The State Health department is, however, continuing its rapid test drive in different parts of the city including apartments. The department has so far conducted 74,000 COVID-19 tests in apartments, commercial buildings, market places and various other organizations in Guwahati.

"The key is testing. We need to do more and more tests. Of course, by testing more we will get more patients, but that is how we can contain the virus," said a Health department official, adding that the positivity rate was above 5 per cent four/five days ago but it dropped to 4.86 per cent. Till August 5, Jorhat recorded 2,155 COVID-19 positive cases followed by 2,075 in Nagaon; 1,996 in Dibrugarh; 1,881 in Tinsukia; 1,871 in Cachar; and 1,749 in Golaghat.
