GUWAHATI: An inter-ministerial team from the Centre is assessing the flood and landslide damage in the state. Sources in the State Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) department said that the central team comprised seven members. The members are Manish Tiwari, joint secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, (ii) Rupak Das Talukdar of Ministry of Finance and others.

R&DM Department sources said that the central team got divided into two groups. While one of the groups visited Chirang and Bongaigaon districts today, the other group assessed the damage in the Lakhimpur district. They are taking stock of the overall infrastructure damage, including agricultural damage, in the state during the successive waves of floods in 2021. The deputy commissioners of the district concerned accompanied the central team during their visits.

The State Government may submit a flood damage memorandum to the central team.

The waves of floods affected 9,09,718 people in 28 of the 34 districts in the state. The floods in 2021 were less severe than those in 2020.

The team will submit its report to the Centre after the assessment.
