GUWAHATI: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, Nitin Khade has urged all the people of the State to go through the 'Draft Photo Electoral Roll-2021' that was published on November 18, 2020. He further said that the public should do this especially because based on this draft roll, the final photo electoral roll will be published on January 15, 2021. And, based on this final roll, the Assam Assembly elections will be held in 2021.

Addressing the media here on Monday, he pointed out that "those eligible persons whose names are not included as of now, those seeking transfer from one polling station to another, and also those seeking corrections in names and other details can apply through the forms specified for those purposes. They can do this both in the offline and the online modes."

The CEO further said, "In the offline mode, they will have to submit their filled-up forms to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of the polling station concerned or the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the Assembly constituency concerned. The claims and objections will have to be submitted on or before December 15, 2020."

The CEO added that the people can check their names and status at the offices of the respective BLOs and EROs in the offline mode; and also at www.ceoassam.in and www.nvsp.in in the online mode.

A special four-day awareness campaign will be carried out to ensure that all eligible citizens enroll their names in the draft photo-electoral roll. These campaigns will be taken out on November 28, and 29, as well as December 5 and 6, 2020, added the CEO.

The CEO also stated that now there is a ban on the transfer of officers and staff engaged with the revision process of the photo-electoral roll. The ban will remain in force till publication of the final electoral roll.

On EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card), the CEO informed that the new electors as well as those who do not possess the EPIC will get their cards after the publication of the final photo electoral roll. He added that the EROs will ensure that there are no dual voters.

Regarding the Delimitation process of the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies, the CEO said, "We are rendering all support to the Delimitation Commission."

The draft photo-electoral roll was published on November 18. The total electors in Assam, as of now, are 2,24,39,522. Of them, 1,14,25,748 are males and 1, 10, 13, 774 are females.

Of the 2,23,63,502 electorates in the final photo-electoral roll-2020, while the male voters were 1,13,94, 972, the female voters were 1,09,68,530.

With the increase of 62 polling stations this year, there are at present 28,205 polling stations across the State. Besides, auxiliary polling stations will be set up, he said adding that there is likelihood of 6, 452 such polling stations to be set up keeping in view the COVID-19 protocols.
