Guwahati, July 6: Noting that transportation of goods through “illegal means” have been causing substantial loss of revenue to the State, Dispur has issued a fresh set of instructions to check gates for proper verification of documents.

“It has come to our notice that many times, the details of consignment such as consigner, consignee, item, value and quantity declared for obtaining transit pass at various other check-posts do not match at all with the details disclosed/ declared at our check-posts,” a circular from the Commissioner of Taxes said.

The personnel at the check-posts have been instructed to invariably ask for production and submission of a copy of transit passes of all the en route states. The personnel will verify whether the details of consignments declared to the Tax authorities of other states match/ reconcile with the details of consignments declared at the check-posts in the State, it said.

“In case of discrepancies, check-posts authorities are instructed to take action for realization of tax and pelty as per provision of law,” the circular said.
