Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Inaugurates Biodiversity Park at Silchar

SILCHAR: Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal inaugurated a biodiversity park – SahityaManishiUpabon – at Rampasadpur in Hawaithang range under Cachar Forest Division on Sunday. The park under 'Campa 2020-21' will serve as a centre for conserving indigenous botanical resources.

The State CAMPA (State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) is an instrument to accelerate the activities for preservation of natural forests, management of wildlife, infrastructure development in the sector and other allied works.

The inauguration was held in the presence of Minister of Forest and Environment ParimalSuklabaidya, MP DrRajdeep Roy, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly AminulHaqueLaskar, and all MLAs of Cachar, besides the administrative and police officials.

Earlier during the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new building of Udharbond Police Station, 12 km from here, and left for inaugurating a biodiversity park at Dholai, the new building of Dholai Police Station. The Chief Minister said that the new buildings of police stations are part of the move for modernization of the State police force as envisioned by Prime Minister NarendraModi.

Inaugurating the biodiversity park, Sonowal interacted with media in the presence of ParimalSuklabaidya. He appreciated the hard work of the Forest Minister in developing and giving concrete shape to the Park. He added that during the period of nearly five years, Assam forest and forestry have undergone changes with increasing forest cover and significant increase in the number of tigers. This was revealed in the report of 'Geographical Survey of India', he added.

Along with the Forest Minister, he had also words of appreciation for Forest officials and ground-level range and beat officers.

The Chief Minister hoped that the flora and fauna of Assam will increase in the coming days. The bio-diversity park would encourage conservation of bio-diversity in the Barak Valley and the State.
