GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Friday filed the chargesheet in the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam case that rocked the State three months ago.

The 2,621-page chargesheet has named 36 persons including two senior Assam Police officials and politically influential individuals as accused in the recruitment scam.

The chargesheet was filed before a special court in the city on Friday afternoon, a development that came a day after Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asserted that all aspiring youths would get their deserving jobs in a transparent and accountable manner.

A total of 58 people were arrested by the CID and police from different districts for their alleged role in the recruitment scam. The arrested persons included several top officials including Assam Police Service (APS) officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna, former DIG PK Dutta and BJP leader Diban Deka. Besides Kumar Sanjit Krishna, PK Dutta and Diban Deka the charge sheet has 33 others as accused.

The Government had cancelled a written exam to recruit 597police sub-inspectors as the question paper was leaked on September 20, 2020.

The case was registered on the basis of a written FIR lodged on September 20, 2020 by Pradeep Kumar, the then chairman of the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB). The SLPRB was entrusted to conduct the written examination to recruit sub-inspectors.

During the course of investigation, the CID had seized cash amount to the tune of Rs. 6,26,69,440, 32 mobile phones, 11 digital video recorders, five laptops and 10 vehicles.
