GUWAHATI: The CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has sought permission from the State Government for an investigation against former State NRC (National Register of Citizens) Coordinator Prateek Hajela.
According to CID sources, the CID sent a letter to the Home Department seeking permission for an investigation against Hajela. The letter is under the consideration of the Home Department. The CID can investigate against Hajela only after getting Home Department's nod.
Current State NRC Coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma lodged an FIR with the CID Superintendent of Police on May 19, 2022, seeking registration of a case against Hajela along with some other officers and data entry operators for their alleged anti-national activities during the NRC update. Sarma said in the FIR, "Despite the mandate of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India for an error-free NRC, the then State Coordinator NRC Sri Prateek Hajela may have intentionally avoided the mandatory quality check by ordering the use of a software which prevented quality check and facilitated the entry of names of ineligible persons into the NRC, which can be seen as an anti-national act affecting the national security."
