GUWAHATI: The State Government has decided to form a circuit of places where Srimanta Sankardev had his footfalls. The Government has already released funds for the institution of a chair at Vishva Bharati University, Kolkata in the name of Srimanta Sankardev.

Informing the House of this today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The BJP government has done as much as it can to propagate the philosophy of Srimanta Sankardev in the world. A Rs 150-crore cultural heritage centre is coming up at Bordowa Than – the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardev. The government also considers all the 'naamghars' set up by the Mahapurush as secular institutes and extends them all financial help.

"A few writers criticized the philosophy of Srimanta Sankardev in their books. We cannot ban the books, but we will file cases against the writers under Section 153 of IPC."
