Close all Bihu functions by 11 pm, says State DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta

GUWAHATI: State DGP (Director General of Police) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has said that with the detection of the UK variant here, the COVID-19 situation in the State is becoming disastrous.
Talking to the media here on Sunday, Mahanta said, "People coming to the State from other States may bring the virus. We appeal to all in the State to remain alert and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour.
"We thanked all those who concluded their Bihu functions by 11 pm, and we welcome all those who have cancelled their Bihu functions to fulfill the conditions laid down in the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)."
The DGP further said that people who have the habit of defying the SOPs will spell disaster for others in the State. "Wearing masks and maintaining social distancing are a must for all. The police will be stricter against those not wearing masks. We've sent as many as 67,000 SMS regarding COVID-19 awareness among police personnel in the State," he said, and added, "All Bihu functions have to be closed by 11 pm."
