CM Himanta Biswa Sarma leads Yoga Day celebration in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations at the Chowkidinghee playground in Dibrugarh on Tuesday.

Attending the Yoga event, the Chief Minister said that a strong nation and a state could never prevail without a healthy new generation. He urged everyone to practise Yoga for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

"Yoga is an essential part of ancient Indian culture. Today, I am honoured to participate in International Yoga Day. The ancient Hindu practise of Yoga calms the mind, relaxes the body and enriches the soul. The union of body and soul naturally excels in all directions due to the powerful process of addition. Yoga transmits the soul, balances the mind and body, spiritually strengthens everyone, and fosters a positive outlook in all directions. To create a drug-free society, parents must instil the practice of regular yoga training in their children," the Chief Minister said.

He added, "I take this opportunity to thank our visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his endeavour in Yoga getting global recognition and making it a part of our daily life. I also thank Union AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his efforts in organizing the 100-day celebration of this year's Yoga Day. I also pray for the safety and well-being of the flood-affected people of Assam."

The Chief Minister also participated in a yoga session during the programme.

State Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi, Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi, Chabua MLA Punakan Baruah, ATDC chairman Rituparna Baruah, Dibrugarh DC Biswajit Pegu and Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra participated in the yoga session with the Chief Minister.
