GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today met the ambassadors and trade representatives of as many as 36 countries in New Delhi and invited them to the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit slated for February 25 and 26, 2025.
During the meeting with the ambassadors, the Chief Minister highlighted Assam’s huge investment potentials in the New Age Sector with an open policy regime in place. “I’ve invited them to join us in Advantage Assam and explore the unlimited opportunities we have to offer,” the Chief Minister said.
Addressing the diplomats, the Chief Minister said that Assam has been making rapid progress in infrastructure, health, education, and other sectors in the past ten years. He said that infrastructure projects costing Rs 1 lakh crore are coming up in the state.
The Chief Minister said, “I requested all the ambassadors to connect us with the investors of their respective countries. My viewpoint is to bring them to Assam and show them what the state is blessed with. It is up to them to cherry-pick the sectors they are interested in for investment. Our duty is to provide them all facilities like incentives, lands, green power, eco-friendly policies, etc.”
The Chief Minister said, “Singapore will be the first partner country for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit. Today, I met the Singaporean ambassador, Simon Wang Wie Kuen. We cherish Singapore’s longstanding support for our developmental aspirations. Look forward to further cooperation. Assam, being the gateway to Southeast Asia, the state is a key part of India’s Act East Policy to strengthen trade ties with our neighbours and offer immense possibilities for businesses to set their bases here and explore the market that the region has to offer.”
On the potentials of the state, he said, “Assam has a lot of potentials that many states in the country lack. The setting up of the semiconductor plant has opened a whole lot of new vistas for Assam. I have no high expectations on the amount of investment the state will get from Advantage Assam 2.0. I’ve got my eyes set on giving the state a solid foundation for future investment.”
Mentioning the proposed defence corridor in Assam, the Chief Minister said that talks were going on with the central government on this front. “I hope that Assam will have the country’s third defence corridor that will pull potential investors to the state,” he said.
The Chief Minister also chaired the roundtables engaging diplomats from ASEAN, BIMSTEC, European, Nordic, and other nations. Discussions centred on expanding trade connectivity and bilateral investments in Assam’s emerging sectors.
In his special address, Union Minister for Commerce and Industries, Piyush Goyal, said that his ministry would place nodal officers to give hand-holding support to those willing to set up projects in Assam. He also said that Assam has immense potential for investments in agriculture, sericulture, aquaculture, food processing, jute, and rubber plantation.
