GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will review the preparedness of medical colleges and hospitals of the state in the first week of January 2023 and take necessary measures to check the fresh outbreak of Covid-19 in the state.

Talking to the media, State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "We conducted mock drills to assess the Covid-19 preparedness in the medical colleges, district hospitals and Covid centres at the directive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The mock drill took stock of the availability of beds, ICU beds, oxygen, doctors and other paramedics. All these health institutes will send their reports to the department regarding deficiencies, if any, in them. The Chief Minister will review the preparedness and Covid-19 situation in the state in the first week of January."

Mahanta said, "We conduct sample tests for Covid-19 every day but have not found any positive cases in the state. If we find any Covid positive case, we will conduct genome sequencing of the patient to ascertain if the infection is of Omicron sub-variant BF.7. We conduct the sample test of every person coming from Covid-affected nations at the airports. Though not compulsory, wearing masks is a necessity. We have not issued any new Covid-19 protocol. We will take decisions after the review of the situation by the Chief Minister."
