CM Sarbananda Sonowal launched Indo-Israeli agricultural project at Khetri

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged Israel to help Assam in its overall growth.

Laying the foundation stone of Indo-Israeli Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation at Khetri on the outskirts of Guwahati here on Monday, Sonowal said that cooperation from Israeli Government in agriculture, tourism and startup as well as other sectors of the economy will help State farmers and entrepreneurs in finding a reliable platform for a brighter future at a faster pace.

Israeli Ambassador to India Dr. Ron Malka, who was also present at the foundation-laying ceremony, mentioned of the close-bond of friendship between India and Israel in recent years. He said that India and Israel make a perfect match for complementing each other.

DrMalka said even in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, both India and Israel worked together. He welcomed Assam into the Indo-Israel partnership dynamics with the opening of the Centre of Excellence at Khetri.

The Rs 10.33-crore project at Khetri is expected to bolster agricultural activities in the State by providing exposure to latest Israeli technologies to the State's farmers and helping them maximize their production and income.

Sonowal hoped that the Centre of Excellence would provide a major boost to agricultural and horticultural production in Assam, leading to greater economic rewards to the State farmers. He said the centre will add value to the government's efforts to double farmers' income through the infusion of technology in agriculture, agribusiness and food processing.

Earlier in the day, an Israeli delegation led by the Ambassador called on the Chief Minister at his residence and held a wide-ranging discussion on various issues beneficial for both Israel and Assam.
