GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday visited the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) and took stock of the health condition of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Sonowal interacted with Gogoi and wished him speedy recovery. Gogoi was readmitted at the GMCH late Sunday night due to post-COVID complications. The three-times Chief Minister, who is 86, had spent the past two months in the GMCH after he tested COVID-19 positive in August. He was released from the hospital on October 25.

Later talking to media persons at GMCH, Sonowal said, "Former CM Tarun Gogoi is a fatherly figure for me. I have visited the hospital as a son to take stock of his health condition. Senior doctors of the hospital are constantly taking care of his health and his condition is gradually improving. He is our senior; and we have a lot to do together in the interest of the people of the State."

Sonowal further informed that Gogoi expressed satisfaction on the medical services being provided at GMCH and informed that his health was gradually improving.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass also visited the GMCH on Thursday and took stock of Gogoi's health condition. "When I became MLA for the first time in 2011, he was the Chief Minister then. I also interacted with him during my stint as the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.

"I wish him the earliest recovery; and he happily interacted with me. Even though he is physically very weak now, he has tremendous enthusiasm and a positive mindset," Dass told reporters.
