Guwahati: Regarding the scuffle on the Parliament premises on Thursday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday lambasted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his behaviour.

Talking to the media, the CM said, “We are appalled at the behaviour of Rahul Gandhi in yesterday’s incident on the premises of the Parliament. One MP shoving a senior MP, behaving badly with a lady MP of Nagaland—this is for the first time that we have heard such things. Before this, I had never heard of such incidents. I feel that yesterday’s incident has exposed Rahul Gandhi’s real nature before the people of the country. People will feel that such a person cannot work for the development of the country. Such persons do not give us any hope.”

Speaking on the recent protests by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, the CM said, “Currently a competition is going on among a few leaders of the state Congress as to who is a bigger leader. Bhupen Borah, Ripun Bora, and whoever else are trying to create a situation so that a firing incident happens. Due to this competition, the people of Guwahati are on the verge of being held hostage. A firing incident might result in injury to people from the Congress or the BJP. Political parties should never indulge in agitation. It should be a fight of ballots. Political parties can never be a student organisation. Congress is trying to foment trouble in Guwahati, but we will also see to it that it never happens.”

During a protest by the state Congress near Raj Bhawan on Wednesday, a person named Mridul Islam died.

Soon after the incident, the CM stated that henceforth, no demonstration will be allowed near Raj Bhawan. Moreover, the city police have already registered a case in the incident.
