GUWAHATI: In a development that may dampen the festive spirit among the residents of Guwahati who are planning to mark the end of 2022 with revelry, the meteorological department has predicted that the temperature in the city is expected to dip even further, reaching 11 degrees Celsius on the night of December 31 and the first day of the New Year.

The minimum temperature in Guwahati is expected to hover around 11 degrees Celsius during the next few days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre. The highest temperature in the city is expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has also predicted fog, mist and gloomy skies during the following few days. It has further predicted that a cold spell will grip Guwahati in the first part of January.

It is noteworthy that although the temperature has dipped somewhat in the city over the last couple of days, the weather in the city is still warmer than areas in the outskirts, which are actually experiencing the traditional winter chill. In so far as the comparatively open areas adjoining the city are concerned, it is already a common sight to see people lighting bonfires to bask in the warmth.
