Combat-Ready For Challenges: DGP Kuladhar Saikia

GUWAHATI: The Superintendents of Police (SPs) of districts bordering Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have been asked to be on red alert so as not to let any of the militants involved in the Tuesday’s Tirap ambush (in Arunachal Pradesh) enter Assam.

DGP Kuladhar Saikia informed this to the media at the State police headquarters here on Wednesday. The DGP had a meeting with all top-level police officers to work out a strategy for maintaining law and order during the counting of votes on Thursday.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Saikia said: “I’ve talked to the Arunachal Pradesh DGP soon after the ambush. We had a detailed discussion on keeping police forces ever ready. We’ve alerted all SPs of the districts bordering Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh to be on red alert. We’ve even asked them to conduct joint operations with other forces as and when the need arises.”

On the investigation into the recent grenade attack in Guwahati, DGP Kuladhar Saikia said: “The arrests made in connection with the attack reflect the united efforts of the State police force.”

On the maintenance of the law-and-order situation during the counting of votes on Thursday, DGP Kuladhar Saikia said: “Our personnel engaged in election duty in other States have returned. We’ve detailed the forces available with us. We’re combat ready for maintaining law and order during the counting of votes.”
