CM INSPECTS BATADRAVA THAN PROJECT

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took stock of the progress of the construction works of development and beautification project of Batadrava Than. He talked to the project engineer and project implementing agency to expeditiously complete the multi-crore project so that the first phase of the project can be dedicated this year itself.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the project on 25 December 2020. The Chief Minister made it clear that the project should be developed in such a way that Batadrava Than can be transformed into a world-class tourist and cultural centre.

Earlier, the Chief Minister visited Batadrava Than and offered his prayers for the wellbeing of all sections of people of society. He also took part in inaugurating the reconstructed Kirtan Ghar cum Monikut at the Than.

The Chief Minister said that as per its commitment, the State government has undertaken the Batadrava Than development and beautification project. As a part of the project, his government would build an administrative building, a guest house, an approach road within one year with an approximate financial outlay of Rs 19 crore inside the Than premises.

The Chief Minister also visited Srimanta Sankardev Research Institute at Batadrava and took a look at the research materials like manuscripts written on sanchi leaf etc. He is the first Chief Minister after independence to have visited the research institute. He said that considering the importance of the institute, the government will send an expert team to prepare a roadmap for the development of the research institute to enable it to carry forward its scholastic activities for the spiritual, cultural and academic excellence of the state. President of the institute Dr Naren Kalita, its secretary Indra Mohan Baruah, MLAs Jitu Goswami, Shibamoni Bora and Rupak Sharma were present at the event.

The Chief Minister also visited Kobaikota Satra and paid his obeisance at the Satra at Batadrava which is the birthplace of Sati Radhika. He had a fruitful discussion with the management committee for the development of the Xatra. He asked the management committee to maintain close contact with the local MLA and local people to chart out the future course of action to transform the Xatra into an important centre of tourist attraction. He also said that the State government will help in all possible ways to develop the Xatra, a press release said.
