LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) formed the government in Assam in 2016 with the objective to build a corruption-free, terrorism-free, illegal migrant-free and pollution-free State. He added that the party had already kept all these promises with a spirit of honour and devotion to the people of the State. The present BJP-led government has ended all the corrupt practices and misgovernance of the Congress-led government, he stressed.

The Chief Minister said this while taking part in a mega election campaign organized here on Thursday. The programme was held at Simaluguri public playground under No. 109 Bihpuriya Legislative Assembly Constituency in support of BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance candidate Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan.

Lambasting the Congress and the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front), Sonowal said, "The Congress and the AIUDF are the enemies of the Assamese community. The people of the State must root out the parties or they will destroy the State. We will not let the parties form government in the State under any circumstances."

He asserted that in the last five years, the BJP has secured the community (jati), land (mati), foundation (bheti), culture, language, literature and heritage of the Assamese community.

Attacking the Congress, Chief Minister Sonowal said, "In order to secure vote banks, the Congress committed a great mistake by safeguarding the illegal Bangladeshi migrants. The infiltration was checked during the regime of the BJP-led State Government. The Congress used the government machinery for its own interest by patronizing inferior politics."

On controlling corruption, the Chief Minister said, "We rooted out corruption and misappropriation of government funds in every sector of the State. The corrupt officers and employees were sent behind bars after initiating legal action. The recruitment tests were held in free, fair and transparent processes. The BJP has done no politics in greed of power." He further stated that the BJP government had accorded land pattas to 3,65,000 landless families of the State in order to secure "mati" and "bheti".

"Moreover, our government has already granted financial packages to xatras, namghars, mandirs, mosques and churches across the State. The BJP has been propelling the developmental activities in the State by uniting all communities with the bond of trust and faith. The bond of unity among all sections of the society has become stronger under the regime of the BJP government.

"The State witnessed communal riots under Congress rule, but not under the regime of the BJP. The BJP is the other name of trust and integration. At present, the State has witnessed peace and progress.

"More than 8,000 militants laid down their arms during the tenure of our government. The BJP has freed Assam from terrorism," said the Chief Minister.

He also appealed to the masses of the Bihpuriya LAC to vote for Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, and ensure that the mission of the BJP alliance to secure 100 plus seats in Assam is fulfilled.

Speaking in the programme, Tezpur MP Pallab Losan Das criticized the Congress and Congress candidate Bhupen Kumar Borah in strong terms. He said that Bhupen Kumar Borah dreamt to win the election with the help of Badruddin Ajmal. Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan appealed to the people of Bihpuriya LAC to make him winner by a huge margin of votes.

In the programme, a number of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) activists and supporters of other political parties joined the BJP in the presence of the Chief Minister. State BJP vice-president Jayanta Das, Lakhimpur unit president Phanidhar Baruah, Lakhimpur unit Kisan Morcha president Prafulla Borah and former Bihpuriya MLA Kesharam Borah (AGP) were among those who were present in the programme.
