Congress Poll Manifesto Today; Citizenship Amendment Bill, NE To Get Prominence

NEW DELHI: Several issues pertaining to the north-eastern States including the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) would be highlighted in the Congress election manifesto scheduled to be released on Tuesday.

“The election manifesto will highlight the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill. In fact from the day when this Bill was introduced in the Parliament we opposed it,” said a senior Congress leader privy to the manifesto preparation.

Congress will release its manifesto at 24 Akbar Road at around 11 am on Tuesday. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, present Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra among others will be present during the manifesto release programme.

An announcement of giving special financial packages to the north-eastern States might get highlighted in the manifesto.

“Through this manifesto, the Congress will also try to criticize the BJP over its economic agenda,” said Pushp Saraf, a political expert. He said that issues related to Jammu and Kashmir would also be highlighted in the manifesto.

“The importance of the India-Pakistan talks would definitely get highlighted in the manifesto,” he added.
