GOLAGHAT/NAGAON: Claiming that "the masses in Assam will vote for the Congress and make it the single-largest party this time", the general secretary of AICC (All India Congress Committee), Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday came down heavily on the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) alleging that the saffron party government failed to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people of Assam during the last five years of its rule in Assam.

During the day, Priyanka Gandhi addressed poll rallies in Golaghat and Nagaon districts.

In support of for party candidate Roselina Tirkey, the Congress leader took part in an election rally in 94 Sarupathar LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) within Golaghat district. Addressing a huge gathering at the Purabangalla playground, Priyanka Gandhi said, "The BJP only knows how to give false assurances. The BJP is running a mafiaraj in Assam. There is syndicate raj everywhere.

She added, "But, the Congress makes policies for the common people."

Referring to the five guarantees of the Congress, Priyanka Gandhi said that the women of Assam have been playing a major role for running their families. She added that the Congress has promised a direct transfer of Rs 2,000 for the women home-makers in the State; 200 units of free electricity; Rs 365 as daily wages for tea plantation workers; and provide employment to five-lakh unemployed youths per year.

NAGAON CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Priyanka Gandhi took part in an election rally at Batadraba HS School ground, 15 KM from Nagaon district headquarters. More than 10,000 Congress supporters took part in this rally.

Gandhi alleged that "what Modi had assured the people of Assam remained as bad dreams since the governments — in Dispur and Delhi — did nothing for the welfare of the common people."

She added, "The Congress is with the common people of the country and it will always be with them."

Priyanka further stated, "Dispur has two Chief Ministers now; and both of them two are remotely controlled from Nagpur."

Earlier she had addressed another election rally at Naltoli in Koliabor constituency of Nagaon.
