DOOMDOOMA: "If voted to power, the Congress will first fulfill its five guarantees promised to the people," said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing a mammoth election rally at Doomdooma on Friday.

"PM Modi talks about 'Make in India', 'Start up India'. But in spite of the BJP remaining in power at the Centre, we see unemployment in all BJP-ruled States. Obviously this is the outcome of demonitization. The declared objective of the Government was to unearth black money. But in the process lakhs of people became unemployed, and in reality the money went into the hands of corporate houses," Rahul Gandhi said.

Gandhi said that the next move that devastated the economy was the GST, which he jokingly referred to as 'Gabbar Singh Tax'. "This also did not open up any employment avenues," he said.

Referring to the three controversial farm Acts, Gandhi said that lakhs of unhappy farmers were agitating against it on the outskirts of New Delhi and warned the Government that they would not allow the Government to take away their rights. "But PM Modi, instead of listening to them, preferred to call them as 'terrorist'. Referring to the waiver of loan of farmers in the state of Chattisgarh within a few hours of installation of the Congress Government there, Gandhi boldly declared that the first duty of the Congress-ruled Government in Assam would be to raise the daily wages of tea workers to 365. Secondly, it would never allow implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Assam. Thirdly, 200 units of free electricity to every household, fourth, Rs 2000 to every housewife and fifth, five lakhs employment to youths," Rahul Gandhi promised.

Gandhi further said that BJP's policy of 'one language, one religion' went against the pluralistic society of India. "So the language, culture and history of Assam are in danger. Finally, unlike the BJP which controlled the State from Nagpur, the Congress wants Assam to be ruled by its own people," he said.

Earlier, Congress candidate for Doomdooma LAC Durga Bhumij welcomed the gathering at Doomdooma Town Field. Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
