GUWAHATI: The State Council of Ministers on Thursday took several important decisions including enhancing the age limit to apply for jobs of the third and fourth-grade categories in government departments from the existing 38 to 40 years.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Assam Administrative Staff College here, also approved the Assam Skill University Bill paving the way to set up the varsity at Mangaldoi in Darrang district at an estimated cost of Rs 900 crore.

The meeting further approved the 'Assam Heritage Protection and Preservation Bill' to be tabled in the ensuing monsoon session of the Assam Assembly. The Bill seeks to protect and preserve all the heritage sites across the State.

The Council's meeting also decided to exclude the areas that fall under the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council as well as the Tiwa Autonomous Council from the proposed Assam State Capital Region.

The meeting approved the insurance scheme of Rs 50 lakh for journalists, home guards and casual workers in case they are infected with COVID-19 and subsequently die while performing their duties.

It also decided to take a loan of Rs 116 crore from NABARD to complete the pending work of the Dhansiri irrigation project which was started way back in 1975.

The Council of Ministers also approved the 'Arunodoy Scheme' under which the State Government would provide financial assistance of Rs 830 per month to the families whose annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh.

It also approved the MSME Bill (Amendment) to be tabled in the ensuing monsoon session of the Assembly.
