Crucial decisions for health sector; Assam government to digitalized birth and death registration

GUWAHATI: The State Government has decided digitalized birth and death registration. The hospitals will give birth certificates of newborns to parents on the day of release. They will also issue death certificates to the next of kin deceased as fast as possible.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired several review meetings of the Health Department today. The meetings took a slew of decisions. The decisions are —

(a) developing an organ installation network at organ installation facilities based on the availability of several 'brain-dead' patients in the state,

(b) launching three vaccine operations from October to March to provide regular vaccines to those who are left out,

(c) taking efforts to prevent mothers' death rate in areas by encouraging the public to donate blood, especially in tea garden areas,

(d) establishing five NHM regional offices in the state for assessing remote areas and coordinating with the PWD to build better quality roads to make health services more affordable,

(e) to make Health and Women and Child Development Departments work faster to make nutrition centres more active for women and children's health,

(f) Assam Medical Service Corporation Ltd to increase the number of pharmacies to let the public buy medicines at reasonable prices, etc.

Before this, the Chief Minister flagged off a fleet of 83 new ambulances in the health sector. He said that the department would induct another fleet of 150 ambulances later. "At present, 800 ambulances are in our service under the GVK-EMRI 108 in the state. The department should hand over around 150 ageing ambulances among them to NGOs for their utilization to serve the needy ones," he said.

The government is contemplating a universal health insurance scheme through Ayushman Assam for people outside the Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme. Ayushman Assam can cover senior citizens, journalists, people without ration cards and others.
