GUWAHATI: Good news for cricket in Assam as Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, was formally elected as the joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unopposed in Mumbai today. He is the first sports organizer from Assam elected to the coveted BCCI post.
The Annual General Meeting of the BCCI was held today in Mumbai, where the new officer-bearers were elected unopposed. Former cricketer Roger Binny will be the new BCCI president, and Joy Shah will continue as the secretary.
Saikia, a former first-class cricketer, has been attached to cricket for a long time. Even after quitting the game, he associated himself with the cricket administration. As secretary to the Assam Cricket Association committee, Saikia developed several new cricket infrastructures in various parts of the state.
The Assam Cricket Association took utmost pride and wished Devajit Saikia for his new assignment in the BCCI.
The Guwahati Sports Association will felicitate Saikia on its office premises tomorrow at 5 pm.
