GUWAHATI: Asking the people of Assam as to whether they want a government which could deliver development or a government which believes only in giving lectures, BJP national president J.P. Nadda said, "It is up to the people of Assam to choose the quality of the next government. The Sarbananda Sonowal-led government has been successful in bringing about revolutionary changes and development to the State in the last five years. If the BJP government comes to power again, development of Assam will get the boost."

Nadda said this while addressing an election rally at Dharmapur constituency in Nalbari district on Tuesday. State Minister and BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary is contesting the polls from the Dharmapur seat.

Nadda also urged the people to introspect as what the State received during the 10-year rule of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the seven-year regime of present Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that the 13th Finance Commission during the Congress rule at the Centre had sanctioned Rs 80,000 crore for Assam. However, the 14th Finance Commission under the present BJP-led government regime at the Centre has sanctioned Rs 1.55 crore for Assam, he pointed out.

According to Nadda while the Congress is making the slogan of saving Assam by joining hands with Badruddin Ajmal, the BJP is taking the State into the path of development by following the ideology of Srimanta Sankardeva, Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi and music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

Terming Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi as occasional visitors to Assam (only when there are elections), Nadda said that the BJP's welfare schemes have benefitted all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed and religion. He pointed out that poaching of Assam's rare one-horned rhinos has come to a halt soon after the BJP came to power in the State in 2016.
