KOKRAJHAR: The Director General of Police (DGP), Assam, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta on Tuesday visited Kokrajhar to review the law-and-order situation ahead of the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) election to be held on December 7 and December 10. He also held meeting with the district and police administration at the Kokrajhar Circuit House. The Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner, senior police officers and other security forces attended the meeting.

Talking to reporters, DGP Mahanta said that for free and fair election in BTC, 30 companies of paramilitary forces had already been deployed. He said that more additional companies of security forces would be sent if necessary to ensure peaceful election.

Mahanta added the violators of law and order would be dealt with firm hands. Since election-related stray incidents are reportedly taking place in some remote areas, the DGP said that there would be zero tolerance against the party or individuals who were found to be involved in violating law and order. He also ensured free-and-fair BTC election.

Meanwhile, Kokrajhar police have arrested six activists of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) who were involved in the attack on UPPL (United People's Party Liberal) supporters at village Talirbari near Simbargaon under Debargaon Constituency in Kokrajhar on Sunday. At least 12 UPPL supporters were injured in the attack, two of them critically, and brought to the RN Brahma Civil Hospital here.
