Dhubri DSP (Border) Jatin Chandra Das Arrested with Smuggler, Cash Seized

DHUBRI: Dhubri DSP (Border) Jatin Chandra Das was arrested with a smuggler, Rafikul Paramanik on Monday. According to police sources, based on credible information about the alleged nexus between Das and smugglers active in Sonahat International Border Trade Centre in Dhubri several raids were conducted on Sunday night.

Dhubri Police seized unaccounted cash Rs 4.77 lakh from the duo with some incriminating documents relating to a syndicate of smugglers dealing in stone gravels and other materials transported to Bangladesh. Rafikul Paramanik hails from South Tokrechara Part IV village under Golakganj Police Station in Dhubri district, a senior police official said. A Dhubri Police Station source said that the duo was arrested under a case registered with the Dhubri Police Station (881/21 under section 120B/409 IPC RW Section 7a /12 of Prevention of Corruption Act). Meanwhile, the two accused were produced before the Dhubri Court that remanded them to one-day police custody for interrogation. After that, the duo will have to be shifted to Guwahati to produce them before the Metropolitan Magistrate on Tuesday, a police station source said.
