Diego Maradona's stolen watch recovered in Assam

SIVASAGAR: The Assam Police today arrested a person for allegedly stealing a luxury watch that belonged to late legendary football player Diego Maradona.

The police arrested Wazid Hussein, a resident of the Sivasagar district of the state, from his residence based on inputs from the Dubai Police, said the state Director General of Police.

The DGP tweeted, "As informed through a central agency by the Dubai Police, one Wazid Hussain had stolen a limited edition Maradona signed Hublot watch and fled to Assam. Today morning at 4:00 am, we arrested Wazid from his residence in Sibsagar. The limited-edition watch has been recovered from him."

According to the police, Wazid Hussian worked as a security guard at a private company in Dubai where Maradona's belongings were stored. In August, he sought permission for coming to India as his father was unwell. Police are investigating if Wazid Hussian has any past criminal record.

Diego Maradona wore two Hublot Big Bang watches during the FIFA World Cup, 2010, when Hublot launched its Maradona Big Bang Chronograph Limited Edition.

"We are interrogating him, and further investigation is going on," the DGP said.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "In an act of international cooperation, the Assam Police has coordinated with Dubai Police through the Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer late Diego Maradona, and arrested one Wazid Hussein. Follow-up lawful action is being taken."
